There have been times in my life when I was able to meditate and found it to be a life changing as people say but, for some reason I’m unable to meditate any more. The state of relaxation and quieting of the mind just does not happen for me. Perhaps in later years with time moving so quickly I find I need all my waking hours to do things I’ve always intended to do.
All to say that’s why the TED article “Can’t seem to meditate? 7 joyful activities for you to try instead” really caught my eye. Then to my surprise the last alternative to meditation was watching The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. Bob Ross’ voice, the soothing conversation and watching art appear actually are incredibly relaxing and distracting enough to rest the mind. Maybe that’s why I’m so crazy about art. It’s one of the few things that allow me to escape the noisy voice in my head and experience some quite relaxation. I suspect artists painting have a similar experience.
So I thought I’d share one episode of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross hoping to provide something similar to my experience when experiencing art and maybe yours too. I hope you enjoy it.
